Australian Open: Britain’s Harriet Dart and Billy Harris into final qualifying round, Heather Watson out | Tennis News

Britain’s Harriet Dart, seeded fourth, moved one match away from reaching the Australian Open after another qualifying win, but compatriot Heather Watson was eliminated.

In the men’s qualifiers, Britain’s Billy Harris easily qualified to the final round of qualifiers.

Dart came from behind in a seesaw match against Australian teenager Tayla Preston to book her place in the final qualifying round.

Watson started strongly in her match against American Varvara Lepchenko, and won the first set before fighting Lepchenko to end the British player’s career.

Meanwhile, Harris, seeded No. 4 among the British men, needed just over an hour to book his place in the final round of qualifying as he bids to make the main draw for the first time.
