The Public Prosecution Service is reviewing the file of evidence relating to a Premier League footballer who was arrested on suspicion of rape.
The man, who is in his 30s, is accused of committing sexual offenses between 2021 and 2023. The Metropolitan Police have now sent their file to the CPS and the player remains under investigation as inquiries continue.
The footballer denies these accusations.
A force spokesman said: âMet officers are conducting investigations following a number of reports of alleged sexual offenses between 2021 and 2023.
âA complete file has been sent to the Public Prosecution Office and investigators continue to work with prosecutors.
âThose who have come forward to the police continue to receive support from DC officers.â
The player, whose name was not mentioned, was first arrested in July 2022 over rape allegations made by a woman in her twenties.
While in custody, he was also arrested in connection with the rape of a second woman in April 2021 and June of that year.
The Metropolitan Police said it would take no further action in relation to the alleged incident in June 2021 because the relevant legislation had not come into force at that time.
In February 2023, police questioned the man under caution about an alleged sexual offense said to have been committed in Barnet, north London, in February 2022.
Police said this concerned a third complainant and was reported in July 2022.
Officers interviewed the Premier League player again, under caution, in November 2024.
The CPS will now decide how to take action, based on the file of evidence provided by the Metropolitan Police. It is not known when the decision will be made.
