Tamworth 0 – 3 Tottenham

Tottenham breathed a sigh of relief after needing extra time to beat non-league Tamworth 3-0 in the third round of the FA Cup.

The final result stunned Spurs, who worked hard throughout the first 90 minutes and could have conceded a deep goal in stoppage time when Tom McGlinchey and Jordan Cullinan-Liburd came close to writing one of the competition’s greatest fairytales.

In the end, the Lambs were undone in tense fashion as Nathan Chikuna inadvertently directed his attempt to clear the ball over his own goal line from a Brennan Johnson cross (101).

Substitute Dejan Kulusevski then doubled the eight-time winner’s advantage when he collected Heung-Min Son’s pass to fire a low shot beyond Tamworth goalkeeper Jas Singh (107), whose partner was watching from hospital after giving birth to a baby boy on Saturday night.

While the hosts were scoreless, Johnson scored a tough third goal for the visitors two minutes before extra time (118), to avoid coach Ange Postecoglou’s team an unwanted surprise.

More to follow.
